Library Instruction Sessions

Instructors may request information sessions in the Library, or in their classroom, to provide guidance to their students in using Library resources, doing research in the Library or on the Web, and working on specific assignments.

First year sessions may include, but are not limited to:

  • topic selection
  • accessing the Library Catalogue to find books
  • use of databases to find journal articles
  • identifying scholarly research
  • website evaluation
  • citation tools
  • subject specific resources

Instructors are encouraged to collaborate with their Librarian to get the most out of these sessions. The Librarians can cover a wide variety of topics, if requested. More advanced session topics could include:

  • Specific databases or research tools (e.g. ARTstor, RefWorks, WorldCat)
  • Trends in the scholarly publishing industry
  • Submitting articles for publication in journals
  • Government/NGO publications
  • Finding statistics/data
  • Archives and primary sources
  • And other topics that you and your librarian can work together on

To request a Library Instruction Session, contact the Collection Manager in your field.
