Open Education Resources Databases in Canada
A large number of Canadian institutions have started to produce OERs. Some of them are listed below.
In Manitoba, Manitoba Open Textbook Initiative has partnered with BC Campus to access the large amount of Canadian authored OER textbooks and supplementary material they host. eCampusOntario's Open Library has a similar interface that searches the same material, but with some additional Ontario content.
- Athabasca University Open Courseware TextbooksAthabasca University is home to the Technology Enhanced Knowledge Research Institute (TEKRI)) and the UNESCO/COL/ICDE Chair in OER, both of which promote research into, and the implementation of, OER at institutional, national, and international levels.
- Contact NorthCN/CN is Ontario’s distance education and training network. It works to provide programming from public colleges, universities and schools with a focus on smaller towns, rural and remote communities.
- OCAD University Inclusive Design Research CentreThe Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC), a research and development centre at OCAD University in Ontario, consists of an international community of open practice advocates. The learning technologies and products that have been developed and distributed by IDRC are distributed under the GNU General Public Licence.
- OER universitasOER universitas (OERu) offers free online university courses in collaboration with Canadian partners so that learners can gain formal credentials from the partner institutions.
- Ontario Open Library350+ Open Textbooks and OER materials.
- OpenEd ManitobaThe Manitoba Open Textbook Initiative has partnered with BC Campus to provide access to over 300 peer reviewed, academically authored, textbooks and supplementary materials.
- Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Open LearningTRU houses the former BC Open University as its distance education wing, called TRU Open Learning. It is working with several OER universitas partner institutions providing initial prototype courses to be released as OER.
- Téléuniversité du Québec (TÉLUQ)Founded in 1972, TÉLUQ is North America’s only French-language distance education university.
Open Books and Open Access Articles
In addition to titles specifically labeled "OER", there are hundreds of Open Access Book Publishers that may have monographs on relevant subjects. A curated list is available at our Scholarly Communications and Open Access LibGuide.
As well, many OERs live in institutional repositories, and can be found by using search engines such as CORE.
