The easiest way to use eBooks is to simply read them online by following a link from the University of Winnipeg catalogue. This guide walks you through some of the additional steps for downloading and using eBooks, and provides links to major eBook collections.
The University of Winnipeg Library provides you with access to a wide variety of eBooks that have been purchased for research use. As well, digital collections around the world are increasingly offering access to historical books that have been digitized.
eBooks often show up in the regular catalogue as well. For many, it is as simple as clicking on a link to open the book and begin reading on your screen. You can also sometimes download a copy of the book, or parts of it, to read at your leisure.
Library eBooks are usually provided by an agreement with a publisher. They can often be read on screen, or downloaded to an eReader or mobile device, like a smartphone or tablet. Some eBooks need to be checked out like regular Library books, and some are limited to how much of the book you may download. The UofW strives to provide the best access we can to eBooks, but sometimes restrictions are placed on their use by the publishers.
