## Search Tips

## Search the Entire Collection

While the items you'll find in the Reference Collection can be a terrific place to start your research, more detailed information can be found in the Library's print and eBook collections. The search box found here is the same as the one on the Library's main page - it can search for books and other material here at the UWinnipeg Library, at libraries in Winnipeg, at libraries across Canada, or even libraries around the world.

Wildcards |
Words may be right-hand truncated using an asterisk ('*') in place of other characters. The '*' wildcard may also be embedded in a search string. You may use '?' to replace a single character anywhere within a word. Examples : environment* polic*, wom?n |
---|---|

Boolean Operators |
Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field, any order. Use "and not" to exclude words. Example : stocks and bonds Example : (alaska or canada) and (adventure and not vacation) |

Field limits |
A field limit causes the system to search only the specified field for the specified word(s). |

Grouping |
Keyword search results are usually grouped by relevance to bring the most likely titles to the top of the list. Each group represents a similar level of relevance and results are sorted within the group by date or title. To get an ungrouped result set, use boolean operators to form a complex query. |

- Digital Mathematics Library (DML)Contains links to 4514 digitized books (> 643597 pages )

and to 318 digitized journals/seminars (> 4303824 pages). - European Mathematical Information Service (EMIS)The European Mathematical Information Service (EMIS) was founded in 1995 as the central portal for electronic math resources in Europe. Since then, with the support of the European Mathematical Society and many publishers, FIZ Karlsruhe has developed the largest open access electronic library in mathematics ELibM as the core of EMIS, as well as many more useful resources.
- Historical Mathematics Monographs (Cornell University)The Cornell University Library Historical Mathematics Monographs is a collection of selected monographs with expired copyrights chosen from the mathematics field. These were monographs that were brittle and decaying and in need of rescue. These monographs were digitally scanned and facsimile editions on acid free paper were created.
- Jahrbuch Database: Electronic Research Archive for MathematicsThe complete Jahrbuch, v.1-68; 1868-1942 is now available online. This is THE resource for mathematical literature during this time period. This database contains a few links to full text articles, but it is primarily an index to the literature.
- MacTutor History of Mathematics archiveMajor features include biography, history topics, and famous curves indexes; mathematicians of the day, and a site search engine.
- NUMDAM (French Mathematical Journals)The NUMDAM web site (Numérisation de documents anciens mathématiques) offers an open access to the metadata and articles published in mathematical journals. For each journal, all the volumes published up to year 2000 have been retro-digitized. To date, 560 000 digitized pages and 27 000 articles are shown on the web site.
- University of Michigan Historical Mathematics CollectionThe University of Michigan Historical Mathematics Collection is a growing library of books selected from the University of Michigan mathematics collection that have been digitized to improve access and to preserve the content of these books. All of the books in this collection were published in the 19th or early 20th century.

- Cornell University Library Historical Mathematics MonographsA collection of 512 selected monograph volumes with expired copyrights chosen from the Mathematics field.
