Nominal Census Returns: England, Wales, and Scotland

description here

England, Wales, and Scotland

  • 1901 Census Website (U.K.)
Provides free-of-charge a complete nominal index to the population of the United Kingdom as of 31 March 1901 (over 32 million persons). However, viewing the actual transcription or the images requires payment. The data supplied in the free portion of the index includes first and last name, age at last birthday, place of birth, civil parish and county of residence, and occupation.
  • FreeCen (from RootsWeb)
A projected transcription of all the censuses of England, Wales, and Scotland from 1841 to 1891 except 1881, without images. 1881 is apparently being skipped to avoid duplication of the transcription made by the Mormons. Begun in July 1999, the work has progressed slowly and somewhat erratically, and no census year has yet been completed, although some counties have been completed for individual years. The best-covered years so far are 1841 and 1891. When using this site, start with the coverage page to make sure you are not searching an empty data set.
