Border Rhetoric

This research guide provides an overview of key library resources related to the rhetoric and discourse of borders, land, and citizenship.

Some Subject Headings

Each book in the library is given at least one authorized Library of Congress Subject Heading. You can search for the authorized heading(s) associated with your topic in the LC Subject Authorities.

Books and other works about the borders between countries, regions, states, etc. are entered under the general heading Boundaries.

Works on lines demarcating the jurisdictional borders between specific regions, countries, etc., are entered under the name of the place with the subdivision Boundaries. Works on the lines demarcating the jurisdictional borders between two countries, etc., are entered under the name of each country with the subdivision Boundaries--[other country], e.g. United States--Boundaries--Mexico; and Mexico--Boundaries--United States. Works on the land located on or near the boundaries between two countries, regions, states, etc. are entered under Borderlands.
